it's been awhile since I did an update on this blog so I thought I'd pull up some recent work and write a little on the workflow/lighting.
Those looking to get into strobist (off camera lighting) or those already practicing might find this useful. I believe in minimalist lighting with a simple set up and affordable gear. The following was used for these shots:
Canon T2i
Canon 50mm F/1.8
Yongnuo 560II (2 of them)
a 22" ebay beauty dish
and Cyber Syncs (trigger & receiver)

that's really it...not very expensive, very portable and simple. Here's how it was lit:

bare speedlight facing the wall (just off to camera left) to wash the wall out in light on 1/2
and the other speedlight in socked beauty dish in front and above on 1/1.
That simple...and this is pretty much what it looked like straight out of the camera.

Just an interesting note about this shot...it was NOT done in a studio. This is actually a pretty dirty white wall (washed out by the light)...under a shelter that was open to the other 3 sides. So you don't need a studio to get this kind of shot.

I get so many emails and messages a day asking about my different techniques from lighting to what kind of actions I use. So I thought I'd find this old blog I started a year ago and finally post something.
I'm not really sure where I am going to go with this blog, if anyone will follow it or find it useful if they do. I guess the best place to start is with a photo and a little background about the process from beginning to end.
I was heading a couple hours away for the weekend and since I knew I had some time to kill while I was there reached out to a couple local models and offered to do a free shoot (I don't really like the term TFP because it's kind of out dated...time for print? trade for print? trade for photos? none of it really makes sense to me so I don't use it). I digress...so all three show up. No MUA (make up artist), no stylist, no wardrobe, no fashion consultant. I just trusted the girls to wear something 'high fashion' and I think they did just fine.
Equipment used for this image: A Canon T2i and a single Yongnuo 560II (fired with cyber syncs).
This was taken around 10am and it was already really bright out and really hot (probably around 90 degrees). I just kind of moved around the pool with my single bare flash on 1/2 on a 6' stand and left the camera on manual....settings somewhere around F/12 and 1/200
